    Home Sweet Home

We bought our current house just about a month after we got married. I was in Australia for work for the closing and Big Guy had to do all of the paperwork himself. Poor thing! We moved in a month after that and the following month we were pregnant. It was a whirlwind process. For the next 20 months, I was either pregnant or dealing with a newborn/baby. And, just before Bug’s first birthday (he was nowhere near walking at that point), we found out we were pregnant again! LadyBug turns two this week and I finally feel like we are able to do some projects around the house. We’ve…

    Holy Rabbit Poop, Batman!

We took the kids into the backyard on Saturday because the snow had started to dwindle and the weather was gorgeous. Unfortunately, the yard is covered in some sort of small mammal poop. Big Guy thought rabbits, but I thought maybe skunk. What does skunk poop look like? Anyway, Big Guy made a big deal out of not stepping in the poop and now Bug is paranoid about skunk poop. He refused to walk across the lawn and all he has been talking about for the past few days is skunk poop. He’s obsessed. Dear Big Guy, if you know that your son is naturally cautious about just about everything,…

    Quiet, Rainy Weekends

LadyBug spent half the afternoon in time out in her high chair for standing on a chair. I just kept telling her to sit on the chair and she’d stand right back up again. I removed her from the chair entirely and she went right back. I tried to distract her, block the chair, basically anything I could think of. She just got right back up there and grinned at me. I wouldn’t normally use time out for such a young child, but I simply can’t get her to understand that no means no. It took maybe 8-10 rounds of removing her from the chair and placing her in time…

    The backyard story

Apparently it was a bad winter in New England for swimming pools. Have no idea what that means? I’ll tell you. It’s supposed to snow before it gets really cold. The snow insulates the ground and keeps the ground from getting especially cold. If it doesn’t snow early enough, the ground gets cold and creates frost heaves. The frost heaves rise up and attack your pool liner. Your pool liner tears and pours gallons upon gallons of murky, smelly, greenish water into your yard. The water rises up, finds a crack in an old window that doesn’t ever even see daylight, and pours into your recently remodeled basement. Your husband…

    Dead and gross

When we got home, I went to check the pool. It was cloudy. And green. With things floating in it. Dead things… dragonflies, leaves, earwigs. Things like that. Oh, yeah, and a squirrel. So I have to ask… who goes away for five days and returns to a dead squirrel in their pool?! We haven’t had a dead animal in our pool in the year we’ve had it, so why did one decide to take the plunge while we were away? Big guy fished him out. Let’s face it, that’s one of the big perks of being married. =} Anyway, he left it on the side of the lawn and…

    Sleep-deprived

Sigh. I’d write something intelligent, except that Little Guy woke up at 2:30am, 3:30am, 4:30am (Big Guy took that one) and needed pacifier replacement or to be rearranged in his crib. He woke up for good just before 6, and it’s been downhill from there. I should add that Big Guy normally takes morning duty, except on Wednesday mornings and one day on the weekend. He does better with no sleep! I was commenting yesterday that Little Guy always wakes up early when I’m on duty, and sure enough… 2:30am. Normally he sleeps from 7 or 7:30pm to 7 or 7:30am, so you can see the problem. As if that…
